I think it’s safe to assume at this point that w I think it’s safe to assume at this point that we all know our kids need to read. BUT we don’t want it to be another thing we have to nag them about, another chore on the chore chart. So what can we do to make it easier on ourselves?! 🤔

These three ways do a few things…

1️⃣ Going to the library or bookstore provides some fresh material. It gives a positive association with reading. An outing that revolves around reading can be FUN and then you go home with lots of new things to read!

2️⃣ Strategic placement of books is my signature mom move 🤌 for a few reasons. Not only does it invite your child into reading with very little effort on your part, but it can help with transition from school to home or from an outing to home time. Try this out. It might surprise you how well it works!

3️⃣ Just plopping down in their play space and reading shows them that not only are you willing to spend quality time with them, but also, reading can be fun and easy. If you didn’t get a chance to read while they were playing, why not during a meal?

Not one thing will work all the time. You need to keep these ideas and rotate them and maybe a few more too! But if you keep at it, you keep things upbeat and positive, and you keep good books on rotation, your kids will enjoy reading (most of the time) and they will clock those critical 20 minutes! 🩷✨📚🔑

Look what I found on the farm takes you through different parts of the farm, the animals, what a farm produces and teaches you all about every bit of it. It’s definitely a book that you could read a few different ways depending on the age of the child. I will show you in stories exactly what I mean!

Check it out along with Look What I Found At the Beach and Look What I Found in the Woods! 🤩

Such a great series to check out from the library or add to your collection. It begs to be read again and again! 🩷✨📚

I’m still wanting to hang onto those last glimme I’m still wanting to hang onto those last glimmers of summer sunshine and this book gives me all those summer feels ☀️

I haven’t come across an @writtenbyamyhest book I didn’t love. Her stories are sweet, simple, and delightful. Always beautifully illustrated and poignant in their own right.

My Old Pal, Oscar is when I first fell in love with her storytelling. We recently got Sometimes It’s Nice to Be Alone from the library and loved that one too.

This one, new this year, is the sweetest read. Big Bear and Little Bear decide to go fishing. They slowly gather up all the things they will need and head out on their adventure. How the story is told is what makes it so wonderful and it begs to be read again and again. Not to mention, the illustrations are just stunning.

✅Add this to your TBR pile or just go ahead and add it to your cart. You won’t regret it! 🩷✨🐻🎣
We are all embarking on a new school year and I th We are all embarking on a new school year and I think we can all agree that we want the best year for our kids. Right?!

If we want to support them and help them learn the best, we need to understand where they are coming from. Often times, kids are just not getting enough movement during the day while at school.

✨Their bodies and brains NEED movement ✨

Then they come home and they are supposed to sit and do homework? We, as parents, need to make this better for our kids.

Here are some ideas…
✨ Let them move and play BEFORE homework.
✨ Get outside for fresh air for at least 30 minutes.
✨ Setup a homework spot outside so they can soak up the much-needed sunshine and fresh air
✨ If they can’t seem to focus, allow for lots of breaks and snacks. Hangry brains don’t function or learn!

If they are assigned 20 minutes of reading, think outside the box. Here are some ideas…
📚 Go on an outing and read on the go. Like read all the signs at the zoo.
📚 Let them sit and read the dinner recipe to you.
📚 Have the find an outside spot to read.
📚 Read with a sibling or a pet.
📚 Listen to an audiobook while playing.

And you know what? If it’s a gorgeous day and your child is still adjusting to the beginning of the year and they need to just move and play and not finish the homework, then so be it. They can do it another day.

I think it’s easy to fall into routines and get rigid about what some of this looks life. Relax and remember the point is to learn. Children learn best when they are fed and have gotten to move!

Grab your favorite ice cream books and any ice cream related toy and start playing! If you don’t have any ice cream toys, balls or pompoms and a scoop with bowls work well. Give kids the supplies and let their imaginations run wild.

Happy playing 🩷✨🍦📚
